Bungie has left Activision as its partner, and has taken over complete control of the destiny IP. This is very exciting news for Bungie, but it also makes me a little concerned.
Jason Schreier from Kotaku has been writting about the game and the relationship with Activision since the beginning, and when asked what he thought about it, his reply perfect sums up my concerns.
“I think this will be good news for Destiny and those of us who love it, largely because Bungie will no longer be restricted to an annualized schedule. Maybe instead of Destiny 3, Bungie will now be able to transform the game into a single SKU that’s updated regularly. That’s my ideal scenario. But Activision is an easy scapegoat. Most if not all of Destiny’s mistakes came from Bungie, not the publisher, and self-publishing a game is really fucking hard. In addition to the risk, Bungie now has to handle many of the business aspects of game development that Activision was handling before — PR, marketing, biz dev, distribution, etc. Bungie has been through this before – remember when it split from Microsoft in 2007? Things weren’t so rosy in the years after that.So I’d say be cautiously optimistic.“

y'all remember before ebooks were big and simulreleases were a thing when a new manga chapter would come out and you’d have to wait for some dedicated soul to scan all the pages in, clean them up, and translate them?
